About MOPS

MOPS is led by mothers of preschoolers and is designed to help mothers build relationships and find strength and encouragement during the early mothering years.

Each MOPS meeting begins with breakfast and time for socializing. We have insightful speakers on topics relevant to moms in this season of life, followed by a time for small group discussion. Moms can gain a sense of accomplishment and pride by completing a fun craft or participating in a creative activity.

Each mom is a part of a small discussion group. This allows moms the opportunity to develop valuable friendships and feel comfortable sharing in an accepting environment. Groups get together for play dates during the year, providing more opportunities to grow relationships for moms and their children.

While every MOPS program reflects the personality of the chartering
faith-based organization and the moms involved, the foundational principles of a MOPS program as described by MOPS International include:

Community: Creating a caring and accepting atmosphere where moms can come together to share in this important season of life.

Mentoring: Mentor moms provide encouragement, and a unique perspective as one who has seasoned experience, offering a listening ear and practical ways young moms can find fulfillment in their rolls as mother, wife, and friend.

Practical Instruction: Teachings by MOPS mentors and outside speakers focus on celebrating motherhood, relevant truths, and the unique needs of a mother in this season of life.

Discussion Groups: The intimate and accepting atmosphere of a small group offers moms a chance to share their successes, questions, and concerns. It is during these times that a mom realizes that she is not alone and lifelong friendships are formed.

Creative Activities: Moms are also given the opportunity to express themselves creatively during MOPS meetings. Through craft projects and life skills presentations, women are encouraged to experience the sense of accomplishment that comes with trying and finishing new things.

MOPPETS: During most MOPS groups, children are taught and cared for in a program designed just for them. They may sing songs, do a craft, hear a story, have a snack, and always experience love in a preschool-like setting.

Leadership Development: Since MOPS groups are lead by mothers of preschoolers for mothers of preschoolers, it provides opportunities for women to gain confidence in their leadership skills through training and experience they receive from their MOPS group and MOPS Internatonal. Many women go on to lead in other areas after graduating from the MOPS program.
